I believe this is the 1600 GT (..as the 1600 E usually has a Vinyl roof) ![]() |

The 'GT' badging is missing from the rear wings and the 'GT' is missing from the 'Cortina' badge on the boot. Definitely a '1600E'. The 'E' symbol may just be visible on the boot I believe. The vinyl roof was an option and although a lot of 1600E cars had them some did not. The '1600E' winged symbol on the C pillar may not be visible because it is further away and the shots are very blurred. Definitely a '1600E'. "Identifying badges appeared on the bootlid and on the C-pillars, plus the car also featured extra driving lamps mounted in the grille using support brackets, and reversing lights mounted on the body underneath the rear bumper. You could also spot one by its blacked-out grille. All kinds of snazzy colours were used that normally appeared on more upmarket Fords, and many cars were sold with a vinyl roof." |

Maltese registration plates, some cortinas and escorts were assembled in malta from ckd kits. not sure if this is a ckd assembled or an imported car. Maltese assembled cars had a 'Rootes' style badge fitted to the rear pillar depicting the maltese cross. this 1600e appears to be a 69 or 70 model going by the grille detail. just noticed malta grille badge too. |

@ cortina.chris - useful info and welcome aboard - keep supplying this sort of info as I never heard of local Cortina assembly here before. Now you've mentioned the differences, I'd add this one does not seem to have the F O R D bonnet and boot lettering used from Sept 68. Lucky Maltesers! |

Blacked rear panel, grille insets and blue centre badge also post-Sept 68, so agree date and your comment on colour. We've just worked out a unique clue that late Maltese-built Mk2s can be identified by the lack of lettering. |

For the one in thumb for 2.24: The vehicle details for RBL 157F are: Date of Liability 01 04 1989 Date of First Registration 15 03 1968 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1599cc Vehicle Colour RED A good innings for it. -- Last edit: 2011-10-12 03:59:21 |
