Does anybody know the year? |
◊ 2011-05-18 18:28 |
It isn't A, and isn't Diplomat. |
◊ 2011-05-18 18:29 |
That's right, rather an Admiral [B]... |

Waiting for Ingo with his "cheap clunker"... |
◊ 2011-05-19 18:13 |
I like A more, there was V8 avaliable. Although... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSguhzSVXtg |

@Nightrider: sorry, you are wrong two times - a V8 (orign Chevrolet) was available at the A and the B-version - but only for the Diplomat (A as B). The Admiral in the Youtube is pimped with such a Chevy/Diplomat-engine, but not original. |

I was talking only about Admiral, not about whole KAD range, so I wasn't wrong. And why you didn't mention "cheap clunker"?? |
◊ 2011-05-19 21:51 |
BTW, by all accounts range should be named in this order: Kadett-Kapitan-Commodore-Admiral. |
◊ 2011-05-19 21:52 |
Somewhere here some weeks ago. The KAD-Opels are indeed cheaper to get than same aged and same sized Benzes and US-cars. Much rarer cars, but indeed cheaper. |

Sorry, the Rekord is missing between Kadett and Kapitän. And the Commodore was positioned under the Kapitän, because it had the Rekord-body (Rekord C/Commodore A, Rekord D/Commodore B, Rekord E/Commodore C). The Kapitän was, since Admiral and Diplomat appeared, the basic -as dsl says "poverty spec"- version of the Admiral/Diplomat. |
◊ 2011-05-19 22:02 |
Errr...It's all about naming, which were wrong. Yes, Commodore was positioned below Kapitan due to Rekord body, but as commodore rank is higher than captain, junior fullsize model should be named "Commodore", and upscale Rekord should be Kapitan. Well, it's like when barebone model came under "Custom Deluxe" trim name. |
◊ 2011-05-19 22:09 |
The positioning in the range depended on the size of the body, not of the engine. And not only at Opel. Same with Ford, VW and Mercedes. The engines were usually the same at the whole brand, just put in different models. So there was a Granada with the 1.7 liter V4 (whch the Saab 96 had, too), but a Taunus [TC1] and [TC2] with 2.0 liters. At VW you could get the 1.3 liter 55hp-engine in Polo, Golf, Scirocco and Passat - but a 1.6 liter engine in the Beetle (1303 S). |

Ingo, I guess Nightrider is referring to the military ranks (I've never been able to understand why Opel used military rank names, btw...) |
◊ 2011-05-19 22:47 |
Oh, sorry, I haven't realized his intention (what shall a Private -without First Class- as me know about military rankings... ) |
◊ 2011-05-19 22:47 |
Well, you've got an ex-army Omega, haven't you? I've never been in teh army (thank god...) |
◊ 2011-05-19 22:48 |
They came up with it in the 30ies with the Navy-names (Kadett, Kapitän, Admiral)... |
◊ 2011-05-19 22:52 |
I'm sorry I'm late.) Looks like I made myself not fully clear.) Well,at least in 30s Navy-names were placed properly... |
◊ 2011-05-19 22:53 |
About its military position I've only found out, that an Omega was allowed from Colonel upwards and that it always had to be chauffeur-driven. The Dutch Army wasn't that bad in the 80ies, as I've heard from friends. It was the relaxed military in the West back then. A friend from the K 70-Club has spent his time there exclusively with - washing the dishes. Washing up the tableware, the whole year... |

Check this out: The script on the boot says "DIPLOMAT" |
◊ 2011-08-16 12:55 |
Well, it says "Diplomat" on the trunk lid, so it's probably be the last "Admiral" modelyear from 1976, which was called "Diplomat" too, but only in 1976. The Admiral name was dropped after 1975, but the Admiral was still built until mid 1976 with the typical Admiral rear and front end as a Diplomat, to be different form the "real" Diplomat with upright head- and taillights. According too the typical carburetor 6 cylinder sound of that car, it's the 2.8 litre 6 cylinder engine. |

i've found that on Youtube and it confirms my thoughts, '76-'77 MY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VczwN_46aPc&feature=related |

I found the car on that site, where they say it´s a Diplomat: Link to "www.filmauto.de" |

I never realized that the 1976/77 Diplomat was also available with the 2800 6-cylinder engine and the horizontal headlights... Every day one can learn new things on imcdb |
