FinnieDave initially ID this as 230 [W110].

Is it the 1960+ version or the 1963+?

This is certainly the small fintail (W110) that appeared first in 1962. (Big fintail 1959). The first w110, the 190, had no lights or indicators under the sea lamps, so I guess it is a later one (200 or even 230). I am not mistaken, this one has the integrated indicators below the head lamps, so it would be a rather late model.

We know the difference between a W110 and a W111 ;) I was just wondering about the model year. Thanks for your answer.

Oh you Mercedes vultures - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WWp67DsTk4 . I hate to intrude on private parties, but my info is that 230 [W110] introduced in Germany August 65 (same time, incidentally as 230S [W111] with the covered lights etc).

@Dsl: You're free to join us :D Until then, stop cramming the site with links that don't work thanks to Sony!

Later (1966) one indeed.

What is this Sony problem? Who does it affect? Any ideas how to get round it?

Music videos on YouTube are blocked in Germany because of a dispute between YouTube and the German rights collection agency.

Thanks Gag. So in theory, none of the links should work for German users - ingo has replied several times that they don't - but some do get through successfully. Is there a way of predicting which will/will not work?

Using some kind of Proxy site maybe (cf http://anonymouse.org/ )

Thanks for the advice! Yes, I normally use a Proxy site (this one which unfortunately has a quite vulgar name: http://www.hidemyass.com/youtube-proxy/ )I just don't like Elvis Costello, that's all, sorry. As an apology towards dsl: Here's some nice Prog Rock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1g3zAfeQf4

Before we get to the serious part of this comment the Merc has ended up as a 200 instead of 230. And thanks cl82 for the invite to Merc with the best of you, but I don't have the knowledge - just some books which occasionally throw up specific info which I lob into the debate with my fingers crossed that it's relevant. Anyway to the music - knock me over with a bulldozer to find a Wishbone Ash fan! Bloody hell lad, that takes me back - my first TDK cassettes, Hillman Hunters with sticky vinyl seats, Birds Instant Whip for pudding etc. And to celebrate Sandie's suggestion (and test it?!?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHDkWCfGY5g .

Not all music videos are blocked, only where Sony, BMG and some other big music-trusts have their fingers in. Some of these blocked music-clips you can watch via www.myvideo.de

Hi all, I originally tagged this as a W110 230 but it has been changed to a 200? There is a scene in the movie where it pans around to the rear of the car and you can see the 230 badge on the rear. Not sure of the exact year but it would have been built between 1965 and 1968. In 1965 the 200 and 200D replaced the 190 and 190D and the 230 replaced the 220b - here's my source - http://www.heckflosse.nl/200230.htm

I own a 1965 W110 190c and a 1967 W110 200D (plus a W111 220SE and 230S) and they are fantastic cars, very under-rated and under-appreciated classics in my opinion. Don't know what prices are like overseas but at the moment here in Australia you can get very nice and near rust-free W110/W111 sedans for under $3000 AUD - has to be the classic car bargain of the century!

All the best to my fellow Fintail owners! If you can grab a copy of this movie there's a good 10 minutes or so worth of footage with the Finnie in it - although the movie has some strong 'adult themes' so don't show it to your kids! :D

as well as an excellent soundtrack by Gabriel Yared http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZ6-b0MGvWU&feature=related .

Four fintails at home?! Lucky one. I guess that is only possible in australia without being multibillionaire. I am not even allowed to drive mine into many cities, and I am already trembling and having nightmares, because the next TÜV (german MOT test) is close.

Lucky Aussies! Here they are outrageous expensive - o.k., sure: when you have connections and patience, the asked prices in the official advertises in classic car magazines will be a joke for you, but Benzes of that age are more expensive than same aged, same sized classics from other brands.
Wrecks from 2000 € onwards, nice one up to 20.000 €. Perfect ones (or from idotic sellers) even more.

And spare parts are f.cking expensive, too. Sure, as for other Benzes, no problem at all, everything is available at the Mercedes Benz-dealership, also German classic car-markets are always overloaded with Mercedes-parts - but never for low prices.

Err, may I ask: is it too rotten for a historic plate? ;) For H-registrated cars, these restrictions for the access of "Umweltzonen" are inapplicable.

ZodiaK DE

2011-05-17 14:48

It might have some difficulty with that. Anyway, it is a hearse, nobody knows the original condition, and it is much cheaper to run as sonst.kfz then the more expensive H.registration.

Ingo DE

Just these days someone in my plate-collector-forum has recognized, that in Berlin UPS now uses their oldest trucks (the Spier-bodied Mercedes T2's) for delivering the parcels - now with historic plates (so older than 30 years) :wow:
Smart idea. It's not illegal to use H-registrated cars for business purpose.
