How do you tell a Cowley from an Oxcart at this distance? I think the one in the thumb might be a later Mark.

Oxford usually had front-fender-to-front-door side slat.

Oh, confirmed here.

"This car is not a Morris Oxford, but the cheaper version, a Morris Cowley. Recognition points, no chrome strips in radiator grille, in windscreen surround, and along flanks of car". (john from Staffs)

Production Oxford II 87,341 units, Cowley 17,413 units.

The Cowley had the 1200 cc engine from the A40 Somerset, vinyl upholstery, smaller brakes, and a 5.125 to 1 rear axle.
The Oxford had the 1500 cc engine from the A50 Cambridge, leather, a heater as standard, and a 4.875 to 1 rear axle.

All that for £40 in 1955 when my Dad bought his Cowley!

I've just got round to looking at the thumb. It's a Series II Oxford, note the radiator grille and the chrome strip along the front wing. IIRC the overriders were standard on Oxfords and extra on Cowleys.
