1951 or 1952... (cf http://www.cadvision.com/blanchas/ID-Cars/DesotoModels3.html ) |

Appears to be a '52 from here. |

Looks to be a long wheelbase model by the suicide rear doors. The only way to tell if it is a Deluxe or a Custom is by the badge on the side. Unreadable on this one unless there is a way to enhance it a bit. -- Last edit: 2011-04-04 04:12:21 |

Hard to say but I would go with De Luxe after comparing back and forth. |

Actually, wouldn't the hood scoop style hood ornament make this a Firedome Suburban? |

No, because once the scoop became available in mid 1952 it was used on all models whether they had a V8 or not. |

Ah! So this could be any LATE '52 model but not any EARLY '52. I take it the chrome side trim was the same across the board. -- Last edit: 2011-04-05 15:48:06 |

Commander, from what I have read the answer is yes to both. The only exterior difference was the badge. The main differences were in interior appointments. My book says that they made 343 De Luxe 8 pass sedans for 1951 and '52 - figures are two years combined because they were essentially the same, the only difference being the change of hood in mid'52. They made 769 Custom 8 pass sedans and 600 Custom Suburban 9 pass sedans but I don't know what defines a Suburban. To be 9 passenger maybe it had a fixed bench in the middle and the regular sedan two single jump seats? There was no Firedome Suburban, only an 8 passenger sedan. -- Last edit: 2011-04-06 12:11:46 |

Thanks, Nz. I have always found these long wheelbase Chrysler Corp vehicles interesting. |
