I think if any, then Town Sedan would be the model name. Not Eight (all Mercury's had a V-8 engine).

Yes Mike. The problem is we have all post-war Mercury (46-48) as Eight.

Mercury Eight /vehicles_make-Mercury_model-Eight.html : pages 1,2 and part of 3>>>> 1939-1942; Pages (part) 3 and 4 >>>> 1946-48. Probably we must do that change.

I suppose it´s because the first Mercurys were released as Eight, including the updated 1942 models that were continued 1946-48. But it´s correct that from 1946 models Mercury only named their cars by the different bodies. They´re still badged EIGHT in the grille though, that could be an explanation that it´s still used on the site here.
