Because of the rubber pads on the overriders the year is probably 1972

According to the DVLA, this B GT was first registered on 1.12.1970. The overiders with rubber inserts were, in fact, introduced for that year. In 1972, the badges were also different.

The vehicle is indeed a late 1970 model 1800 engine with overdrive and a factory Tudor webasto folding sunroof. I know this car rather well because I purchased it from its first owner in Sepember 1979. The owner was a gentleman called Desmond Saunders and it is my understanding that the car was bought for him as a christmas gift by his mother, hence the registration date of December. Des Saunders was working on the Protectors series at the time (am not sure in what capacity though no doubt one could IMDB it) and they needed a sports car for one of the episodes so he let them use his.
Desmond Saunders was also involved in the Supermarionation Thunderbirds series in the 1960s as editor and director of some episodes. I restored the MG over the 23 years I owned it, repainting it Flame Red instead of the Bronze Yellow which was a quirky colour of the era - referred to by by Des as "Baby shit brown". It had 54,000 miles on it when I bought it and I added another 80,000 including a trip to italy. It was a fantastically reliable car. I passed the car on in very good shape - with an Oselli engine and many refinements - and it is my understanding that it is still running and even being raced in club events to this day in the South of England. I wish both Arnold (the MG) and Des continued longevity.
