Yes, those two! Leyland and AEC shared a cab design, as AEC was acquired by Leyland Motors Ltd in 1962. http://www.worldwidetruck.com/gaydon08.jpg http://www.worldwidetruck.com/gaydon03.jpg I think I can make out the triangular AEC logo, therefore I would suggest we use AEC Mandator. |

The short top grilles denote a Leyland: http://ccmv.fotopic.net/p26772826.html Compare with the long grilles on the AEC: http://www.worldwidetruck.com/gaydon08.jpg This is likely to be a Leyland Beaver - quite a lot of Beavers were built to a heavy duty spec for aircraft refuelling |

Definitely a Leyland Beaver. It definitely has the narrow upper grills which were fitted to Leyland rather then the long ones on AECs. This is a Gloster-Saro tanker built for 24 tons gross on 2 axles, plus a 2 axle drawbar trailer. These ultra heavy duty monsters were used mainly on airfields round the world. The MOD had a lot. 5 speed constant mesh gearbox, Leyland 200 bhp power plus engine and power steering. I know 'cos I have one in preservation, still working, built in 1967, which has never been registered! -- Last edit: 2007-05-31 23:24:04 |
