Daimler introduced this for the first time in 1979, but "rolls" could be added also to older bus I think. -- Last edit: 2011-10-30 18:43:17 |

In my birth-town Essen they had this system for some years up to the mid-90ies, even for trolley-buses. When they reached the special lanes (former tram-ways, resp. the concrete-carriageway was built besides the tram-tracks, so both systems could use it) the trolley-bracket was lifted up. They stopped with that system around 1994/95, when there was a crash, where an old lady died. One bus overturned by entering the "O-Bahn"-lane. AFAIK this is the only "O-Bahn"-carriageway left until today in Essen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDR2UTwGyA8 (from 0:40 to 1:15 - it's not the sun at 1:07 ). But it's only used by normal buses, there are no trolley-buses any more in use in this town. |

I had some doubts how to list this, as I thought it is better known (such vehicle) under the name "spurbus", but MB used "Omnibus Bahn/O-Bahn" fore entire system when it was introduced. Nice music in this video BTW. -- Last edit: 2011-02-26 21:39:18 |
