The 9-7x is rather rare. Said to be one of the first SAABs to feature permanent full-time all-wheel drive as standard equipment on all models. Engine torque was fed to all four wheels via a single-speed transfer case boasting a Torsen (TORque SENsing) center limited-slip differential (LSD). SAAB claimed the 9-7 also had a rear "heavy-duty limited-slip" differential, but I suspect it rather had the heavy-duty Eaton rear automatic locking differential (ALD). The term "limited-slip" was likely used so as not to confuse customers. The idea of a locker (full locking differential with 100 percent lockup) that can be used on pavement seems to confuse people. -- Last edit: 2011-02-18 01:43:57 |
