Capri 2 launched in UK early 74 and presumably similar in Germany, so unlikely US waited to 76my unless there was a year or so break after Capri 1 stopped. Can anyone clarify? |

From Wiki: "1976-78 models were the re-designed hatchback models offered worldwide since 1974, fitted with the grill-mounted turn signal lamps and the required round sealed-beam headlamps, 5 mph body-color bumpers and catalytic converter, requiring no-lead fuel.." |

So there was a break - unless Capri 1 continued in US into 75my which would mean being produced for US-only for a year and a bit after production for Europe had stopped. Reason for trying to pin this down was looking at our US Capris and trying to clean up some of the undated Capri 1s. Unclear when (69/70/71) first US Capris sold, and then how many different mys were apparent after the minor 73my facelift (big rear lights, short side vents) from the various bumper and grille arrangements. |

i THINK that we received the mark I for the 1971-74 model years, and the mark II for 1976-78 model years, but the '78s may have been left over '77s... |

The 1976 models were introduced early, in March 1975 (From Standard Catalog of Imported Cars 1946-1990). Leftovers were sold in 1978. Alos says that Capris were introduced on April 17, 1970 in the US. -- Last edit: 2011-01-30 03:41:46 |

Thanks for the info. So to try and pin everything down on US versions/dates/mys: 1] Capri 1 (early version) thin rear lights, long dummy side vents forward of rear wheels: - launched in US April 70 - is this 70 or 71 my? - no apparent changes before US Capri 1 (late version) - agreed? Or if there are, what are they, and which US my? 2] Capri 1 (late version). Facelift with large rear lights and shortened dummy vents. UK equivalents launched Sept 72, German probably similar. - date of US launch unknown - is 73my acceptable? - first examples seem to have ordinary bumpers. We don't have too many of them but they do exist - see thumbs 3&4 in /vehicle.php?id=19891 . - next change seems to be bigger girder bumpers - most of our Capri 1 late versions - possibly plus new grille design - agree 74my? - no sales in 75my so we should never have 1975 entries. 3] Capri 2 (new body with hatchback) - launched in US for 76my; any changes for 77my? - were they all Ghia spec/badged or were there other versions? For instance the coachlined example - /vehicle_129247-Capri-1977.html which looks like European S trim. - no sales in 78my or later, so no US Capri 3 (as introduced in Europe spring 78) should exist. |
