its at least a 3/4 ton, Gmc Sierra 2500, or Chevrolet Scottsdale C-20 |

The name badge on the side was only used on 1973-1974 GMC models. Since this is indeed a 3/4 ton truck, it would be a C-2500 equipped with Custom trim ("Sierra would not be the base trim until the 1975 models came along) and a "Wideside" bed. -- Last edit: 2010-08-26 01:30:01 |

Vehicle was 6 years old and the bed was already rusting. Wow ![]() |

From your comment I have to assume that you weren’t driving in the 60s/70s and therefore find such a thing surprising. A car or light truck of that era had minimal to zero rust protection, and pressings were spot welded together and such sealant as was applied during manufacturing would be going hard and cracking. Double skinned assemblies like wheel arches would then get damp inside, and since there was no paint on the metal internally the result would be rusting through from the inside. I’m afraid I have to say that a car of that era that wasn’t showing signs of rust at six or seven years old was the exception, not the way things are now. |

Thank you johnfromstaffs. I was not driving back then. Didn’t start driving until 2007. The earliest you can receive your license in PA. I learned something new! |

You are welcome and I hope that I do not come over as some sort of know-all. I got my driving licence in 1965 and the oldest car I recall driving was from 1931. My first new car was obtained in 1972 but several second hand ones had preceded it, the first being a 1953 Ford bought for £55. With the support of my Dad, who had been driving since the 1930s I kept all my old bangers running myself, but my welding skills leave much to be hoped for. Rust was always the biggest problem as all cars here have to pass an annual inspection after they reach 3 years old. |
