I was in Europe a while back and saw one of these being used for tours in Ljubljana. There was lettering on the front that read: Dotto Trains Castelfranco Italy In three lines following the curve of the circle, just like the text on the one here. This one isn't identical to the one I saw, but a lot of the details match. I am confident this is a Dotto. There are possibly more on the site already, either unidentified or listed as Custom Made. Wikipedia lists a couple other manufacturers, including Tschu-Tschu, Deltrain, and the Railroad Factory: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trackless_train A Dotto very similar to this one; note the text on the front: http://hungary.hevizhotels.com/images/Heviz/city/14.jpg |

@rljuna2: this tourist-train gaves me the memory of a true story. Do you know, that a front lamp-lense of a similar train has caused a scandal in the 90ies? No idea, why I cannot find a pic right now in the web, because it's a well known, nearly legendary vehicle It's about the "VW Bähnle", the Typ1-based tourist-train, made the 50ies, Volkswagen has used for many years for the visitor's-tours in the Wolfsburg-plant. When is was replaced by Golf-based trains, it was stored in the AutoMuseum Volkswagen (still located in a shitty old factory-building in the Dieselstraße, it's not the same as the ZeitHaus in the AutoStadt). There was a chef, who sould be responsible for taking care of the museum-cars and also for the first steps of VW to offer parts for classic VW's. But he (nickname: VW-dwarf) was quite busy to make own half-legal (sometimes not even that) private deals. To come to this VW-train: for any reason this train had all the years one original "KdF"-glass in one front lamp. A real original one from 1940 One day this guy has replaced it by a normal pre-1967-glass and has sold it for an incredible high price to a well-known KdF- and Kübelwasgen-collector in the USA. And put the money in the own pocket. There were a few other crooky deals (the whole classic VW-scene was whispering about it), too. When it came up to higher VW-managers, it caused real hard investigations by the VW-security and the attorney... |

not /vehicles_make-TTDF.html ? or maybe it is those that should be changed? or do both names exist as different ones? -- Last edit: 2010-11-11 22:22:17 |

As CougarTim wrote, there are some more manufacturers of them. That above and that one, I've linked, are for sure Italian made Dotto's. |

Could be a french made CPIL or AKVAL (previous name of the company), located in Picardie at Beautor (Aisne 02). A company that I've visited 8 months ago for my business. http://www.aisnenouvelle.fr/index.php/cms/13/article/167075/ http://www.petits-trains.com/professionnels http://www.toutypasse.com/cpil-petit-train-touristique-c1.html Since I wonder if they haven't bankrupt? their site non-active anymore http://www.trainstouristiques-cpil.com/ http://www.lunion.presse.fr/article/region/frappe-par-la-crise-cpil-licencie |

On what chassis these tourist-trains-"locomotives" are based? Once I've seen such -I don't know, where- whose wheels were looking very much like from a Suzuki SJ. |

"Dotto Trains" is the company name, I am not sure that "Trains" should be included. We do not label Volvos as "Volvo Cars" |

Would be senseful to avoid mixing them up with Volvo Penta |

On the second next Saturday there will be a chance to find out more about these vehicles. There will a Christmas-market be hold in my village, including such a train as shuttle-service (on the 600 meters-long Main Street...). I'll do my best. With the help of some Lumumba's it should be possible. |

Here we go: But it's something smaller and more simple (and much cheaper, as the owner told me). Based on a Deutz 30 06 ( http://www.schuetzenpanzer.de/html/d_30_06_s.html ), the coachbuilding was made ca.15 years ago. The cars are selfmade, based on former luggage-trolleys of the Deutsche Bundesbahn-railway-company. Specially for Animatronixx, the coachbuilder. The company diasappeared not a too long time ago, ca.5 years, as the guy said: -- Last edit: 2010-11-27 19:50:36 |
