It’s the new 2011 model, not 2010. Low range gearing has been dropped to save weight, but still retains the locking center differential (to provide locked four-wheel drive with 50/50 torque distribution), augmented by 4-wheel automatic brake differential (ABD) a.k.a. traction control, for near perfect torque management. A locking rear differential is still available (but only as an option) with Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus). Off road skid plating is also available. Dropping low range gearing from 4x4s seems to be the new "in-thing" to do among automakers, as new off road electronics flood the market. Several 4x4s no longer offer it (like the Cayenne above), or if they do, it requires a special off road package to get it. |
