1949 GM TDH 4509. New York City Omnibus Corporation used 3 types of "old lookers" 4506 4507 and 4509. Only the latter have that window configuration |

This is a New York City Omnibus GM TDH 4509 but it is NOT a 1949! NYCO received three shipments of 4509's between 1949 and 1951 and fleet number 3026 was in the last batch delivered in 1951. Even if I didn't know the fleet number I could still tell you that it was a later phase model which included a strengthening of the roof elements over the rear and emergency doors - a problem that was first detected on New York City's 1948 TDH 4510's. The modification is easily detectable by the narrower single passenger window just forward of the emergency door which was originally the same width as the single lens just aft of the emergency door. This modification continued through the production of the 4511'a and 12's as well. Incidentally, if Phantom Punch was filmed in 2008 then the attachment was an archive clip because all of NYCO's 4509 met the crusher by 1965 - the license plate is also pre 1957 convention size. http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa193/MISTERLINSKY/PHANTOMPUNCH.jpg -- Last edit: 2011-02-28 11:52:14 (130rapid) |
