Sunbeam produced this version of the 25 1933- 35. This looks like a 1933- 34 car. It had the Noel Reece 3317cc engine, 80 x 110mm. This was a fine power unit running in seven main bearings. A heavy saloon made 77mph and 0- 50 in about 18.5 seconds. Saloons cost about £850. The 20 was similar in appearance but somewhat smaller and had three engines in as many years- 18.2. 19.8 and 20.9hp- the last named being a small bore version of the 25's engine. Only 41 25's were built in 1933, 198 in 1934- the company was slowly going out of business and was taken over by the Rootes Brothers in 1935. Sunbeams were fine cars, but making expensive cars expensively was not the best business to be in during the early 1930's. -- Last edit: 2010-03-16 14:17:17 |
