Introduced April 1967. I think Oct 68 facelift had a chrome side trim - not visible here, so call it 1967. |

Advice please about Hillman Husky Series numbering. As I understand it, and wikipedia seems correct, the sequence is: 1955 Husky [Mark 1] - based on Mk VIII Minx with sculpted side wing outlines. 1958 Husky Series 1 - new squarer body, based on new Audax Minx, sad-looking mesh grille 1960 Husky Series 2 - same body, facelift with more modern grille with bold vertical bars in convex formation like the similar Minx facelift 1963 Husky Series 3 - same body, another facelift, simple but bolder grille with thin horizontal bars, again similar to same date Minx facelift 1967 Husky [no identification type] - new Imp-based design, minor facelift in Oct 68 with front trim bar between headlights. The Huskys we've got have lots of different designations, including Mark 1s as Series 1, Series 3 being used on Imps etc. What system do we want to use? |

Good question... The pre-Audax Minxes have Mark and Phase numbers, the Audax Series numbers, the Imps no extra info. I'd tend to have the old Minxes only have Phase numbers, and the 1955-1957 Husky we'd call Phase I, teh Audax Minxes have their Series numbers and we couold use Series I, II and III for the Audax based Huskies, and for the Impa based Husky just the year 1967 or 1969. Btw: there seems to be a BMW 02 with a vinyl roof in front of the Husky -- Last edit: 2010-09-29 00:37:32 |

Fair enough - I'll update. With a Husky which is a Series model, but I can't tell 1, 2, or 3 I'll suggest Series unknown. |

Usually we take the oldest possible version if it is impossible to tell them apart. Or the most probable. |

Delete Series 3 as did not apply for Imp-based models. |

That should be all the Huskys done - easier than I'd thought. Only 1 [possible] 1963 Series 3 found. Have a soft spot for Huskys as our first family car was a Series 2 in Apple green and cream, and I always used to help wash it every fortnight. It lasted about eight years until the floor rusted out. My favourite Husky fact - Rootes entered a works team of Series 1s on the 1959 East African Safari. I'd love to write that they finished 1-2-3 just to see if I could establish a new legend, but in fact they all retired. For some reason the three consecutive victories in the Le Mans 24 Hours and the win in the 1961 Indianapolis 500 have been deleted from the official records .. -- Last edit: 2010-09-29 01:39:19 |
