If the first advertise is correct (of only three!), 1981-83 were the only years, when the Crown ever was offered in Germany: Link to "suchen.mobile.de" I thought, it ws never sold here, as the very few Crown's I've seen here, were later privately imported from Switzerland, or Scandinavian countries. |

This picture schould be re-titled. Due to the fact of the storyline of this episode of "Tatort". I will explain myself: Firstly it is obvious that this is a Toyota Crown of around 1983. But when one looks closely the grille is of a different design. This is because it is a car of a fictiscious japanese make "Yatoya" named "President" which gets used for the storyline of this "Tatort". The car even gets it's own stand on the Frankfurt car show (which took place in autumn 1985 and there is actual footage used from that show in this episode) but it is obvious that the "Yatoya" exhibition was filmed in a studio. So the picture should be re-named Toyota Crown Super Saloon / Yatoya President. On a further note this is a very interesting episode for car-nerds like me. As this episode was shot in Frankfurt in 1985 you see a lot of interesting cars: Firstly the Mercedes MagicTop 7 from b&b which was used without owners permission for this episode, as the owner only gave permission to have it shown by b&b on their stall on the Frankfurt motor-show. Secondly you see on two occasions for very short glimpses the MK. 2 VW Golf tuned by b&b. It is a one-off and it was one of the very last cars that came from the Frankfurt-based company b&b which went bankrupt in 1986. Also the offices of the ficticious company "Yatoya" shown in this episode seem to be the actual offices from b&b as there are two b&b pictures on the wall and two vehicle mock-ups in the show room. One is the front half of a Porsche 928 and the other a front half of a VW Polo. I guess they were used to show the potential b&b-customers the benefits of the on-board computer "DINFOS" that was engineered by b&b. This "Tatort" is a must-see for auto-buffs in general and even more for those who know b&b but just want to see a bit more. Even though it is just split-seconds where the cars are shown. Sorry for the long posting, but I somehow wanted to give a bit more insight. -- Last edit: 2011-09-23 14:51:01 |
