Or MJ. MKs had a petrol engine, MJs (1981+) a diesel. |

Only the different cabbed Bedford RL's had a pure petrol engine .British army MK's were multi fuel but I believe they normally ran on diesel . -- Last edit: 2010-08-31 10:43:19 |

The only possiblity of some form of identification I can suggest is by the badging. This appears to follow the civilian 'TK' pattern, but all badges and BEDFORD letters are normally body coloured on the military varsions therefore not always easily seen. If it has the shield type badge (basically rectangular shield with rounded corners with the raised griffin), its before 1976 therefore definitely 'MK' as here /vehicle_188220-Bedford-MK.html /vehicle_288164-Bedford-MK.html (With BEDFORD letters above the grille its before 1972 and afterwards the letters are on the grille) If it has the 'silhouetted' badge it is after 1976, so it is either 'MK' or if later than September 1982 its 'MJ'. So the question is were there any military contracts within the six years, 1976-1982? If not they would all be 'MK'. Examples as here /vehicle_141268-Bedford-MK.html /vehicle_199558-Bedford-MK.html /vehicle_303913-Bedford-MK.html The 'MJ' later carried the 'AWD-Bedford' badge after 1987 and possibly no badge when built by Marshalls after 1992. Of course badges can also be removed. http://miliblog.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/nggallery/nggshow.php?pid=7149 |

Other thing I've noticed is all the later MJ's had that solid 'roof rack' fitted over cab , what year did this come in ? They're a bit like the other classic Brit product the JCB 3C, in production 1963-1980 ,all look very similar but their are many subtle changes year on year. -- Last edit: 2010-09-01 09:34:52 |

The roof rack is seen on at least one MK as built as early as 1979 (although some later MJs have not had them fitted at all). I believe this is a MK with the roof rack fitted. /vehicle.php?id=283619 Plus some MKs may have had the roof rack fitted later as a modification to an earlier vehicle. |
