According to Jim Suva, the owner of a 1977 Rockford clone who researched the Firebirds used on the show, the production used Formulas after the first season but modified them to look like the original Esprit. He has a blog about Rockford Firebirds that you can see here: http://jimsuva.typepad.com/blog/ Here is an blog post/article from "Pete Dunton's Old Car Memories" about his Rockford clone and the Firebirds used on the show: http://www.oldcarmemories.com/content/view/65/1/ From Ep. 4.01 Freddie Beamer takes Rockford's Firebird while he's on vacation and wrecks it. Anybody know the engines used on the 77 and later Firebirds. One of these was for sale a few years back. I called on it and owner said it had a 350 Chevy engine. I know a lot of Olds engines showed up in 77-79 California Pontiacs. Doubt if 403s were available in these non TA cars but I think 350 Olds was. |

Seems as if this entry - like the other post-first season Rockford cars - should be listed as "Firebird Formula as Esprit." |
