I haven't seen this movie in years. I remember that the spare tire was missing from this car, so it had to be towed to a garage or something. |

The spare was flat IIRC. This was a great movie. I gotta get this one on DVD on day. |

So that was you I saw in Wal-Mart, taking that little car from that small boy… He cried and cried… Shame on you!!! |

Oh that's right- the car was already using the spare tire. Then it turns out that they had previously replaced the original tire, and so there was nothing in the spare tire compartment in the trunk. (and a spare tire can only last about 30 miles- just enough to get you to the nearest garage) |

Unless it's a full-size spare which you can pretty much run on like a normal wheel/tire. The donut is pretty much worthless since you can't go above 35 MPH. And if you have a donut and if it's FWD, hope one of the fronts don't blow. -- Last edit: 2006-12-08 07:04:26 |

actually, the spare was NOT flat. it was never seen. the kids didn't realize where the spare actually was. one of the kids says it was on the car possibly. but the reality was, it was in the passenger side compartment, not under the cover they opened. on 77-96 full size GM wagons, reguardless of whether they are 2 or 3 seat models, the spare is hidden in the passenger side storage area. the area they opened was either a 3rd seat (most likely for a fully loaded buick estate) or storage. and the spare may or may not have been full sized (i think on the 80s wagons they were donuts) but they are rated for 50mph usually, and these wagons are RWD. this is a pic of a newer 91-96 GM wagon but the spare was in the same spot on the one in the movie. it might have actually been full sized now that i look at that pic. -- Last edit: 2009-06-15 00:37:24 |

Yup. They opened the aft portion of the third seat bay, alas to find no spare because it's in the rust-away side hump under the right rearmost window. I loved this movie as an '80s kid and when we first saw it, afterwards walked out to my folk's '87 Parisienne Safari wagon in the Niagara Falls Theater (Scummit Mall) parking lot with a touch of envy since my Dad ordered our B-body twin with wood grain delete and spoke wheel covers instead of alloys or Rally II's. Lol. |

I wonder if this is the same prop car used for the shot of the McCallister family's cars in the garage in Home Alone. Both films were directed by Chris Columbus and there were actually several other props in this film that were reused in Home Alone, one of them being the angel candlesticks on the Home Alone dining room table. |

Only if it's an undersized donut. A full size spare is a regular tire. |
