The badge on the right is too long for "Excel". Perhaps it says "Precis". The Precis was a Mitsubishi. |

The Hyundai Excel was a thinly disguised Mitsubishi. The platform, engine, body, etc. were all Mitsubishi. |

The Precis was a badge engineered Hyundai which is why Mitsubishi put a "Imported for Mitsubishi Motors" badge and not a "Mitsubishi" badge on the back. While the Excel used a Mitsubishi drivetrain (hell even my Geo Trackers have Mitsubishi parts in them) they were built in South Korea and were not "Thinly disguised Mitsubishis" -- Last edit: 2010-06-19 20:30:07 |

On the wikipedia page for the Precis, there is a link to a review of the Precis by Consumer Guide saying that the Excel/Precis were based on an earlier Mirage design using a similar front drive chassis and mechanical components. So it wasn't thinly disquised, but there was a significant Mitsubishi influence. |

like I said drivetrain, I am pretty sure that the Excel was Hyundai's first front wheel drive car so it would make sense that they used another manufacturers design. |

Was the Precis also available as a 4-door hatchback and a sedan, or were those body stiles exclusive to the the Excel? |
