It looks much bigger than an 1100 and has sidemounts.Fiat 2800 cabriolet 1938.

This must be one of the most interesting cars we have on the db. These Fiat 2800 Phaetons were built for the Italian -ahem- 'government' of the era, the coachwork was supplied by Viotti of Turin. 12 such examples were reportedly completed of which it is believed 6 do still exist. This one might be one of two known to be in running order. A rare car indeed.

not that small and a 1100 too (norbert, the guy who shot it, is well experienced in fiat - working for the company.)

maybe thats the influence of USA, making us think, cars of that size need 5 litres minimum ;-)))

5 litres minimum don't hurt a bit.

oookay! but as you mentioned being a pacifist: it could help, needing less oil ;-)))

I would like to drive a noble convertible like that with just a 1100-motor:

There are obvious differences between the movie car and the Castagna woody shown. The Castagna woody has the postwar 1100 D/E grille whose sides are slightly rounded at the under part. The movie car has a prewar grille with straight sides and also a prewar body. The hood and the front fenders of the movie car are longer ( it would have been difficult to accomodate sidemounts on the fenders of the Castagna car). The wheelbase of the movie car also looks longer. So, I am still not convinced that this is an 1100

I'm a pacifist, not a tree hugger.

When I compare this car with the photo I have from the example that is in the Storia Fiat in Turin, you are absolutely correct.
