Same as the Malibu in Maximum Overdrive, only this one is a wagon.

This one's a '79 Malibu. The 80 had more of a vertical grille design. Notice though, that, like the Malibu in Maximum Overdrive, this one has mis-matched wheels, too? That almost looks like some kind of Buick sport rim on the front, and a generic steel wheel on the back that lost its hubcap.

For some reason I decided to watch this movie again yesterday. I had TiVo'ed it awhile back and saved it. The Malibu is actually a bit interesting in the way it's optioned up. It's the nicer, posher Malibu Classic model, which you can see for a moment when one of the doors is opened. There are cloth inserts on the door panels, which the cheaper Malibu didn't have. But then, the car doesn't have air conditioning. The clue here is that there's a plastic faceplate over where the right-most a/c vent would have been. Cars with a/c had four vents in the dash, but cars without it had the two outer vents blocked off. I guess it was a Canadian-market Malibu, and there's probably less demand for air conditioning up there. Or at least, in 1979 when this car was built, it was probably considered less of a necessity.

The car also appears to have a Canadian speedometer, with only KPH on it in big numbers, instead of both MPH and KPH, like a US-spec car would have had at the time. Also, on the passenger-side front, this car did have a proper Malibu hubcap, kind of a deep-dish spiral/mesh design that was optional.

This is a 79, and I've been looking for one of these for ages to add to my collection. The Canadian spec speedos do have the KPH in large print but they also have the MPH in smaller print on them. if this one has the speedo in KPH only then it has a euro spec speedo. That said GM sold a shippment of Iraqi spec 81 malibu sedans on the Canadian market with euro speedo's in them. Many of us Canadian Malibu guys have swapped out our Canadian speedo's for the euro speedo from these iraqi malibus since they read up to 200KPH versus 140KPH on the Canadian spec speedo. All of my Canadian Malibus were A/C cars. The KPH only speedos in the iraqi malibu were the sweeping type. If the speedo in this wagon was the round gauge type then it would be a euro car, that would raise the question "what country did they film this in?" many film studios will film in europe with american cars found there and try to make the scenery look like the USA.

One of the two cars seems to have some sort of dealer badge on the left side of the lift gate...I wish I could read it.

EDIT: After some enhancement, I think I've got it! It looks like "Terry Balkan," which is a now-defunct Chevrolet dealer in Winnipeg. That dealer must've sold this car new.
