The production 2011 SAAB 9-4X luxury utility will have SAAB’s new XWD cross-wheel drive, all-wheel drive system. XWD all-wheel drive will have one-speed single range gearing featuring an electronic center coupling with variable torque distribution (front-to-rear torque split) and a electronic limited-slip rear differential. In conjunction with the limited-slip rear differential, the all-wheel drive system will also be augmented by 4-wheel electronic traction control and DriveSense. SAAB’s DriveSense adapts the engine, transmission, electronic center coupling, steering, and throttle response via the driver selecting one of three settings: Comfort, Intelligent, and Sport. Ground clearance is measured at 7.9 inches (200 mm). This is likely the lowest point under the vehicle. The overall ground clearance may be more than that. A towing package will be available, allowing the 9-4X to tow up to 3,500 lbs (1,588 kgs) of braked trailer. -- Last edit: 2011-05-25 02:11:16 |

Actually, Saab XWD isn't exactly NEW. It's been around since 2008, in the Saab 9-3 Turbo X, along with the 9-5 and the new 9-3X (A Volvo XC70 like wagon) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_XWD -- Last edit: 2011-05-15 02:40:52 (ford_guy) |

It’s still considered a new system, but not all-new. It would have been brand new or all-new in 2008, sure. |
