The smaller 'barn door' engine lid would indicate a 1955 model, but not when it concerns not just a Bus or Transporter but an Ambulance... Late 1951 or early 1952 the Amulance was introduced with this smaller engine lid and a rear door that folds down instead of up. |

Since it has a rear bumper we know it's not 1952. Rear bumpers became available mid-1953. It's likely a mid-1955 to mid 1958 model. The barndoor-era trucks and ambulances had different engine lid hinges |

Right you are, Maicocpa, and welcome to the site! I hadn't thought about the bumper. Here's a 1955 ad for the ambulance: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/55ambulance/cover.jpg I think we could say this is a 'made for B' version, by the rear indicator lights. |
