1956 Flight Hawk. 6-cyl. because I can't see two exhaust pipes. |

Awww, shucks, guys. Actually, it looks like 130rapid has already nailed this one! Quick things to look for: 1) Rounded roofline narrows it to '56-'61. 2) Lack of fins = '56 or '62-'64. 3) Combination of 1&2 pinpoints it to '56. 4) 1956 Golden Hawks and Sky Hawks were hardtops and this looks like a coupe. 5) That leaves Flight Hawk (6) and Power Hawk (V-8). 6) Whereas I'm not sure re: single vs dual exhausts, the Flight Hawk, being a 6, would be more likely to have a single exhaust. I would go with 1956 Flight Hawk per 130rapid's ID. |

Did a quick look-over of the 1956 Studebaker Accessory Guide. It appears dual exhausts were standard on Golden Hawks and optionally available on other V-8 models (meaning the Sky Hawk and Power Hawk). They were apparently not available on 6's (Flight Hawk). So we cannot say for certain this is a Flight Hawk. Could be a Power Hawk without the dual exhaust option. Listing as Flight Hawk would be appropriate though (in the absence of more info on the pictured car) since we know ALL of them had single exhaust. Here is a link to the guide, for any interested party: http://www.1956goldenhawk.com/manuals/56access.pdf -- Last edit: 2010-02-12 03:17:39 |
