It looks like a convertible, but Cadillac didn't make any from 1977-1983 and after 1985. I guess that narrows the field to 1984-85 ...unless it's a custom job.

ASC made convertibles in all those years. They were officially sold through Cadillac dealerships and had full GM warranty.

Its not a convertable, it is a soft top. Many Cadillacs and Lincolns have this features on their models.

Sorry, I still don´t think this is one of these cabriolet-style roof covers. If I watch the area below the rear window and the shape of same (compared to our former company car which is seen below), I´m almost sure this is one of the ASC Convertibles, officially marketed over the Cadillac dealers´ network.

The roof indeed seems to have like "creases", it doesnt seem to be a vinyl roof.

I agree that it's a convertabile cause u can see the back window which the window doesn't look hard at all so it indicates convertabile.

but should ASC really be part of the name???? A lot of companies outsource the convertible conversion. For instance all Sunbirds and Cavaliers convertibles were also converted by ASC

Cadillac is especially known for convertibles and these were normally built in-house (body by Fleetwood or Fisher). The official Cadillac convertible had been discontinued after 1976 and when they announced a new series for 1984, it was pretty much a sensation. There had been some conversions made by coachbuilders like Hess & Eisenhardt or American Custom Coachworks after 1976, but these were just coachbuilt cars. In 1984 the official convertible reappeared, but it wasn't actually factory-made. Many people still think they were, but that's wrong. Thus I think it's worth mentioning as an additional info.

Mrs. Hess's car. Fitting, as the Custom Coach was Hess & Eisenhardt ;)

This specific model (and year) was a tank! 200 pounds heavier than other trim levels. This generation Eldorado was essentially a re-badged variant of the Oldsmobile Toronado and Buick Riviera at the time (downsized from previous years). I'm not 100% sure, but I think this particular model and trim level may have been the most expensive vehicle Cadillac offered in 1984 (just above the Seville which was always the highest priced sedan).
