LPG? interesting. Is it LPG-only, or dual fuel (petrol too)?

It´s indeed bivalent. So it only needs fuel when you start the engine and in its warm-up period.

Yes, here its used the CNG or GNC in spanish (Gas Natural Comprimido) since the 80's. And Owlman, its bivalent. In the stars, uses gasoline (or diesel, according the engine) and after, passes to the other (LPG/CNG, or other).

@Gomsel: no gasoline/Diesel, only fuel-engine can run with an added LPG-conversion kit. It can be mounted in every carburator-fuel- cars, also in fuel-cars with an injection systeme. In the past you got a big LPG-tank in the trunk, nowadays there are tanks for mounting in the space for the spare tire.
LPG is very popular in the Netherlands, the most used imported bigger cars like US-cars, Benzes, BMW's, etc (cars older than 25 years are tax-free in NL) got that conversion. It's a bit popular here, too, in the German areas close to the Dutch border, but the interest is getting weaker since a while. Except the fact, that it makes no sense any more to go to NL to fill up LPG, because the German price became similar to the Dutch one and here more gas-stations have LPG, you have to think about the costs of the conversion ad the mandatory TÜV-certificate. And you shouldn't forget the disadvantages of LPG:
- 10% higher consumption
- 10% less power
- a higher cumbustion (not every engine like that)
- less space in the trunk and/or no place fo the spare tire
- in some places (parking garages, ferry boats) LPG-powered cars are forbidden

@ ingo: here its used the GLP/CNG in conventional engines, when i writed before. All the taxis here use the CNG.

@ingo: My neighbour had a Subaru Forester (2008, 147 PS, automatic gearbox) with a LPG-kit. There was a special offer from Subaru. You buy a new one and you get the LPG-kit for free. And he was very pleased of this car. As the tank was in the spare wheel recess, he had a big boot. And despite the weight of the vehicle and the automatic gearbox it was quite fast. The best thing was, that the LPG-gas is quite cheap which was good for him, because he drives about 6000 km a year.

You mean 60.000 km, or? ;) Yes, LPG is cheaper than fuel, but te consumption is higher and in the German tax-system, you don't get lower rates, as for the newest Euro4/Euro5 classified cars. So the differnce in money-savings is not too big, compared with a clean-emission Diesel-car. But this also depends on the -often changing- tax-regulations...

Well, he only drives about 6000 km a year. Since January 2010 he owns a Suzuki SX4 1.6 (2010 MY) and it has got about 6200 km.

Although the car is primary a year old, he wants to buy a new one. His SX4 is a good car, but with 120 PS it hasn´t got so much power. And because of this -IMO rubbish new E10-fuel- he would like to buy a Diesel-SUV with an automatic gearbox. He took a look at the new Kia Sportage CRDi and the Skoda Yeti 2.0 TDI 4x4 DSG. He also likes the Ford Kuga with the Powershift-gearbox. But they all have got a big problem.

It´s the delivery period. Every car arrives at the dealership in July-August. And that´s really a long time.

Sorry, but it's totally strange and not comprehensible to make such a big thing about a car, when he only drive 6000 km per year - this is nothing! He isn't serious to buy a new car, just beause of the E10-stupidity, just because Super plus is a few Cent more expensive, or? If you have such a low yearly mileage, you can give a shit about the fuel comsumption and the fuel prices.
And that the delivery period is so long, is negligible here IMHO - at least this guy don't need any car at all.

As the LPG kit was free, why not take it? It may also help resale value when he changes the car.

Well, yes it´s a bit weird to buy a new car almost every year (I think his Suzuki is his 35. car), but he can afford it. He is a bit like a car-gourmet, so always something new.

dsl wrote As the LPG kit was free, why not take it? It may also help resale value when he changes the car.

It's not about that LPG-car, it's about, that he wants to buy a next car again, and that he thinks about the problems with the new "bio" E10-fuel.
