The USA models looked TERRIBLE. |

In my opinion instead, European cars with US specs are nicer than original ones |

The sealed beam headlights and the gaudy oversized safety bumpers? No thanks. The Yanks ruined the look of cars with there safety nonsense. |

It depends on the car: I don't like a lot the bumpers, but I prefer round lights instead of the rectangular ones... On some cases US style later arrived in Europe, too (Jaguar E Mk II and Fiat 850 sport spider, for instance...) |

The problem though with the sealed beam lights is that you'd have to replace the whole lens instead of the bulb when it blows, which equals big money. |

Not really, if you choose H4-lamps in the same dimension -mostly round- as the sealem beam ones. Round lamps are mostly usual standard-parts, used in several models, so available without problems at the Bosch-dealer. |

Oh, walter, you wrote this under a pic of a car, which has lost most as US-version. W116 and W107 are one of the poorest victims of that regulation. Finally all European cars, which were in production, when the US-law was relased, were optically destroyed then. Same with the 02-BMW and the Audi 100 C1. My deepest condolences to the Sirs Paul Braq, Claus Luthe and Wilhelm Hofmeister. For sure these visual disasters wasn't their intention. Or think about the Triumph Spitfire, the Peugeot 504, the MGB, even the Fiat 131 has lost due that. Later on, when cars were designed with the US-regulations in the back of the constructor's heads, it was getting a bit better. Before the 1974-law with the bumpers, it was not good either. There are many cars, which have lost their design-line just due the US-front lamps. Extreme examples are the Audi Super 90 and the NSU 1200 C. O.k., only a few dozens of them were made in US-version, but indeed, they are looking disgusting! |

Another thing I think is ridiculous on US-spec. cars is the amber / red sidelights. The rest of the world can manage without them, so why can't the Yanks? |

According to www.bar.ca.gov , as of 2004 the plate 273APA was on a 1999 Audi A4 Quattro. |

I believe that these laws were adopted at the height of Ralph Nader's unsafe at any speed hysteria. |

I agree. I always thought they Euro headlights looked kind of plain. I can't co-sign the bumpers 100%. I think the W126 looked better with US bumpers than the Euro model. |

I don't agree in this case with Ingo; I prefer by far Merces W116 abd W/C107 in the US versions. t is question of tastes. |

As I wrote in the comments above 10 years ago, I agree with you. |

This is a 1974+, not a 1975. 1974 was the year that all cars were mandated to have the heavy 5-mph crash bumpers. |
