based on Ram logo and the lack of the word 'Dodge' on the backdrop I believe that these are 2010 Ram Truck (marque) models. So the proper name would be the redundant Ram Truck Ram 1500 on the left and Ram Truck Dakota on the Right (Ram Truck being the make and Ram 1500 being the model) http://www.ramtrucks.com/en/ -- Last edit: 2010-07-31 06:18:59 |

I would suggest that we make this page for the Dakota as we don't have any and with them being discontinued after 2011 we may not see very many of these. Also I changed the name back to Ram as that is the proper name of the marque and the consensus seems to be that Ram would be better than Ram Trucks. Comments? -- Last edit: 2011-05-28 05:36:16 |

Running VINs for 2010 and 2011 models shows us the switch occurred for 2011 model years; not 2010 models. The change happpened in 2010 for the 2011 MY. I bet Ram trucks were the same....someone may want to run VINs of the 2010 Ram/Dodge trucks. 2010 with VIN: Link to "poctra.com" 2010 with VIN: Link to "poctra.com" 2011 with VIN: Link to "poctra.com" 2011 with VIN: Link to "poctra.com" @baube this changes things for the way we label these. Reverting to Dodge as 2010 models were not labeled Ram by the VINs. |

i wouldn't be srprised if it was the case.. i often thought ( still even today ) that RAM was created in 2010 but with 2011 MY ones..  |

while the VIN switch may have occurred in 2011, according to Chrysler themselves all 2010+ Trucks are branded as RAM and not Dodge, they even said in a press conference at the time that the VIN would still come back as a Dodge, but y'all do what you want I am not on this site enough to argue about it anymore. Regardless of the year, this is a booth for RAM trucks and not Dodge, based on the backdrop. |

sorry it was an Interview with RAM CEO (at that time ) Fred Diaz "We first asked whether Ram trucks would continue to have a Dodge VIN (vehicle ID code), or whether the brand would spin off on its own. Mr. Diaz responded that Ram would continue to use the Dodge VIN identifier" "Ram will always have the Dodge emblem inside and outside. We need to continue to market as Ram so Dodge can have a different brand identity: hip, cool, young, energetic. That will not fit the campaign for truck buyers. The two should have distinct themes. ... Sam Elliot's voice overs are fantastic - perfect [for Ram] - but wouldn't fit for Dodge." and when specifically asked if the Dakota was a Dodge or RAM: "We asked if the "lifestyle Dakota" would be a Dodge or a Ram, and he said, "If it has a [pickup] bed, it's a Ram." Interesting. Thank you Tonka. I am not an expert by any means I am just the VIN expert here at my commercial lender. I get to study VINs all day as people do not understand how to read them or even know how to properly list the vehicle in the leasing/loan system. TL/DR: reverted to RAM. |

you know what is really funny... I repo cars for a living and when i get a repo order from Chrysler Capital it still comes back as a 2020 Dodge Ram so its not just us that has no idea whats going on haha |

For instance some of the employees here list Ford F-750s as Ford Dump Trucks or International Water Truck. My favorite is when the cab configuration and trim level is listed in the model name field. Ford Water Truck Crew Cab XLT. All in the model name Believe it or not most (not all) water trucks are the F-750 weight class. I am sure some have heard of United Rentals. Well my company does a lot of their customer financing. United Rentals doesn't know how to list their vehicles properly either. You should see some of their invoices they send us... For a time we were getting invoices with the wrong Model Year on them too....which is why I stepped in the audit the documents. The bank won't allow us to fund the deal if the VIN shows one year and the invoice shows another... |

yeah I get repo orders like that too...my favorite is RVs though, sometimes they just decode the Vin for the Chassis and send me looking for a Ford F53 instead of a Winnebago ITASCA but a lot of the times it'll just say something like Ford Itasaca suncruiser 35 the funniest was when they accepted an order for a "Volvo Dump Truck" and i wound it, when i called my boss and told him he needed to hire a loboy and escort cars etc, he thought I was crazy. He said just get the keys and drive it to the lot... He thought he accepted an order for a normal dump truck but it was an 6 wheeled articulating off road beast |
