If this is the third generation, it's a 2011 Focus.

That´s really a great car. Looks very, very good, with a great handling, good diesel and new Ecoboost engines.

Best car in the Golf-class.

You are alone with this opinion :p Eine häßliche und oberpeinliche Billigschüssel ist das, und da erst recht: http://www.merian.de/kolumnen/mit-stil/a-728916.html Das gilt für alle Focus'se aller Baujahre.

@ingo:

For the english speaking people:

1. I am not alone with my opinion. Sure, it needs getting used to, but it´s much nicer than (for example) an Opel Astra (seems like bloated) or a VW Golf (really a nice car, although it´s gently developed further).

2. Furthermore, the Focus isn´t (whatever which model) a cheap car, as it is a very solid car (also very reliable). And it has got one of the best chassis in this class (without VW´s DCC!!)

Therefore, the Focus is the best (and best looking) compact car on earth.

The US Focus is different from the EU one.

I liked the first one but found the second one horribly bland and it wasn't as good to drive as the first. It was basically trying to be a Golf. This is the same. It has the same bulbous quality of almost all modern five door hatches. I'm sure it will be a lovely car to drive and good to own (Gone are the days when Ford turns out automotive turds like the MK5 Escort) and I wouldn't bet against having one myself but at the end of the day it does nothing to stir the soul. Just 13 foot of bland steel, plastic and rubber.

Think I'll manage to disagree with each of you somewhere in this, but:
- Escort Mk5 - appalling in the poverty and mid-spec versions, but Ghias were much better;
- Focus 1 - an incoherent styling mess inside and out, headlights that were so weak they bordered on being dangerous, but wonderful to drive (in daylight)
- Focus 2 - much improved styling to a mainstream level instead of being ugly, equally good to drive as Mk1 with better diesels, interior OK but irritating details - a very effective car
- Focus 3 - flabby styling with lots of current cliches in a desperate attempt to look different again, and the rear looks likely to be very claustrophobic with those stupidly small windows.

A perfect reason to have the opposite opinion. :p

Ford can make as good cars as they want, I will never like them. I have my entrenched opinions and my stolidness for years and no reason for changing them.
m.pfaffeneder is too young for that, but my strict denial of Ford is based on their behaviour in the mid-90ies. There Ford Germany has done a kind of "Abwrackprämie", long before the 2009' government-decision. There you got 3000 D-Mark (ca.1500 €) for your old car, when you have bought a new Ford. These trade-in-cars were strictly and completely crushed, no chance to get them - and there were really nice classics among them, like for example perfect old-daddy's Ford Taunus [TC1] with 30.000km, VW 1600 TL, etc. - this f.cking behaviour of Ford Germany has founded my opinion, that it's an asshole-company, that Ford-cars are pieces of shit and Ford-buyers idiots. :o

Full agreement. I'm absolutely reluctant to accept or like modern cars ("modern" means for me: 1980+)

m.pfaffeneder DE

2010-11-19 22:53

@ingo: But it´s not the fault of Ford Germany. It´s the fault of those people who give the cars to them, to buy a new one.

PS: Everyone has got other favourite cars or companies, but you are an undeviating "VW-Lover" and "Other-Companies-Hater".

m.pfaffeneder DE

2010-11-19 22:55

By the way: In my opinion, VW build good cars, too. (Polo, Golf, Touareg, Tiguan, Scirocco)

 I must deny this stoutly - I don't like or love VW. For several reasons, historical and actual (the behaviour to classic VW-owners etc.) ones, I really dislike this company. I've been annoyed so often by them in the last 20 years, that I try to avoid closer contacts. Yes, there is a VW-sign on my car, but it isn't a real original VW. But even when I had all-day- or winter-cars from this brand (a 32B-Passat, an Audi 80 and a NSU 1200 C), I've solved problems with the cars by the help of friends or independent garagists, for main thing, to avoid to go to VW.

Oh sorry for this assumption. There is really a problem with VW`s, because they build good cars (Polo, Golf, Touareg, Tiguan, Scirocco) and in almost all tests in car magazines or tv shows, a VW wins the comparison against the other cars. But after a few kilometres (like 100.000 km test in "Auto Bild") these cars are rubbish.

VW Polo: mark: 6
VW Touran: mark: 6
VW Passat: mark: 5

The best VW is a Tiguan: mark 1

So much for reliability of VW´s.

Modern technology never will reach the classics:

Good examples for the many reasons to prefer classic cars :king:

P.S.And annother example for the stupidity of Volkswagen: http://www.doppel-wobber.de/wbb2/archive/17/thread.html The idiots didn't take the car for their museum, so it was sold to a rich Golf-collector in Austria. Money-greed of the former owner, as mentioned in the forum, was not the reason, VW has acted dorky. Not for the first time, if it was about rare, collectible classics :/

Ingo, IMHO, the european Focus (made in Gral Pacheco) its a great car, but with a limited equipment (so rare in the Narcosur  )
Anyway, the problem in the Mercosur, is Ford Brazil (evil that despite several Brazilian-forum visitors).
The poor quality of the Fiesta, the Ka, the regional Ecosport and other monsters, just make me think of a Focus on, or a Ranger at best (although the Ranger USA, not Thai).
Also, I give the right to ingo, which have a price policy disgusting, deplorable and there are sectors that are not well covered (do not sell any MPV in the region)

@Gomselmash11: Fortunately, the Ford´s in Europe are very well made and they have got many covered sectors (except a Coupé or a Convertible).

microcar: Ford Ka
sub-compact: Ford Fiesta (which is a bestseller, too)
compact hatchback: Ford Focus (3-door, 5-door, Turnier, Sedan) (bestseller in England? and Germany)
suv: Ford Kuga
minivan: Ford Fusion (that will be replaced by the new B-Max)
compact van: Ford C-Max and Grand C-Max (Grand C-Max with sliding doors)
van: Ford Galaxy and Ford S-Max (best vans in Europe)
middle class: Ford Mondeo (Sedan and Turnier)
transporter: Ford Tourneo and Ford Transit
pick-up: Ford Ranger

Focus is no 2/3 in sales in the UK generally behind the Fiesta or Astra or both.

They are going to build a new Focus Coup in the style of the Scirocco and they have the old Focus Convertible.

Unlike Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes they are not trying to extend into every market segment (and even those which don't exist cf. Passat CC, X6 and R-Class!) and seem to in some markets have a predominance in most sectors. The sad thing being that probably their best car in the Mondeo doesn't. In the UK buyers tend to prefer the Insignia, 3-Series and increasing the Audi A4 as mid sized/fleet cars.

m.pfaffeneder DE

2010-11-20 17:07

Can you buy the Focus CC in England, today? Because in Germany the production for the Focus CC has ended in spring/summer.

dsl SX

2010-11-20 17:13

Focus CC still listed - if production has stopped, it may just be to clear showroom stock.

m.pfaffeneder DE

2010-11-20 17:15

The new Ford Coupé (probably called Capri) is only a prototyp. Maybe it will appear in 2012.

Sandie SX

2010-11-20 17:19

It hasn't sold well at all. They should have a lot of stock to clear.

m.pfaffeneder DE

2010-11-20 19:47

That´s not only the problem with the Focus CC. Because in Germany the VW Eos, Opel Astra TwinTop, Peugeot 308 CC or Renault Megane Convertible (all with a hardtop) arent´t sold well, too. Only the BMW 3-series Convertible is sold well.
le
Mainly the Ford and the VW had/have problems with their roofs, because they were/are leaking. And the others have got problems with their hydraulik systems of the roofs.

The new Focus débuts electronic torque vectoring, which simulates a high-performance limited-slip differential without the additional expensive and complex hardware.

The ABS brake-based torque vectoring system applies precision protracted braking on the inside wheel (as the car navigates a turn at speed) creating drag while forcing torque to the opposing outside wheel, thus enhancing cornering performance and overall handling.

The new 2013 Ford Taurus SHO will also receive electronic torque vectoring. Fascinating technology.
