Question to Pokeoddsponge who submitted this one: what was the role of the vehicle? When was is it visible? As you did not send a picture... |

Background vehicle (1 *). Time about 00:36:33.![]() ![]() ![]() My attempt at a composite image: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/845/opwlfcomp.png/ Firefighters in the scene were actual members of the Pawtucket Fire Department from who the truck was loaned. My dad (recently retired Pawtucket firefighter of 25 years) said that the truck was not in service at the time and had been sitting unused in the City vehicle yard in non-running condition when the movie needed a 1970's vintage fire truck. Some scenes that take place in Pawtucket were actually filmed there, for example when we see the Pawtucket Police Station, it's the real thing. However this scene was filmed he thinks on the University of Rhode Island campus and they had to tow the truck down there, since he thinks the city mechanics may have actually removed the engine from the truck. One mistake though, while according to my dad the truck itself is a 1974, which is the year the movie takes place, what happened was in 1983 there was a massive fire at a gas refinery, when Engine 4 company (this truck) arrived at the fire there were explosions and the fire got out of control and the firefighters were forced to abandon the truck and run for cover. The truck was damaged so bad that my dad says he's still shocked to this day they were able to repair it, however the rear body of the truck had to be replaced, we see it here with the newer 1983 body, but since it's only in the background and is marked for Cornwall, Connecticut fire department (they put a magnetic word "CORWALL" over "PAWTUCKET" on the side, see also /vehicle_400057-Pierce-2004.html) I think that might be being too nitpicky. -- Last edit: 2011-07-11 21:47:12 |
