Vauxhall Victor 101

Its definitely not a Vauxhall Victor 101 (FC). It has a noticable full length panel feature line, the Victor 101 and the earlier Victor FB was completely smooth sided above the wheel arches and less curved. Some had contrasting flashes (VX/490) but that is not on the picture.

I doubt that its any Vauxhall.

Iran Khodro Paykan. Essentially a 1966 Hillman Hunter built in Iran. It was still in production in 2004, but I think it is now discontinued.

The Victor 101 is not absolutely smoothsided, it has got the panel line mentioned look at this: http://www.vauxhallheritage.com/articles/030725/enlarge.asp?pic=133649AA.jpg

And the shape of the blurry pictures match this car very well.

The Khodros that I could find had a turning light in the leading edge of the front wing the Vauxhall did not. On that basis I would lean toward Vauxhall. However, this movie was made before the first Iraq war and some scenes could have been shot in the middle east making Khodros a real possibility. Did that confuse things enought :D

All the details match the Vauxhall in the picture Daf posted.
One detail were the Vauxhall and the Hillman/Iran Khodro differ is the rear wheel arch. This detail is visible despite the blur.

After I saw the pic DAF has posted, I'd also say it is a Vauxhall.

It's a 1964-1966 Vauxhall Victor FC, which was badged the Victor 101. I've got one :)

Do you have some confirmation of the Victor 101 [FC] being exported to North America?

I believe the FB Victor was the last model exported to that market? Later the Viva - up to the [HC] model - was exported as 'Epic' or 'Envoy' with different brightwork to Canada certainly but not I think the Victor 101.

Edit - Correction I've found pictures of both Envoy Sedan and Special [FC] in Canada, so they do exist.

For USA/Canada, marketed as both the 'Vauxhall Victor' (sold through Pontiac dealerships) and 'Envoy' (Chevrolet/Oldsmobile/Buick dealers). The Canadian Viva HA and HB models were sold as 'Vauxhall Viva' by Pontiac/Buick dealers or 'Envoy Epic' by Chevrolet/Oldsmobile dealers. I hope that is correct.

I havn´t got no solid sources to rely on, but I think Vauxhall Envoy was introduced for export in 1960. Primarily for Canada, maybe more markets. Based on Victor F-series.
The successor based on FB-series went to several markets, still as a Vauxhall I think. There was also a Wagon called Vauxhall Sherwood. The HA-Viva sold as Vauxhall Epic on some markets.
After that it seems that Envoy became a brand instead of Vauxhall, but if that includes all FC Victors and HB Vivas I don´t know.

Thanks bent8rover and DAF555.

I remember the Victor FB with the extra side-flash and Viva/Epic both HB and HC versions and your comments about Pontiac dealers selling Vauxhalls also sounds familiar. :)

the light inset on the rear wing is now reminding me of HD Holden...

The IMDB doesn't list any filming locations, but looking at crew members' names I'm pretty sure that it was Israel. So I think we can forget about Holdens and other cars unlikely to be found there.

I see what you mean, but look at the rear wing. Agreed, front wings don't appear to protrude enough though. Anyway, who says it not an Australian traveller who got lost and stayed for a bit? We've got lots :D

I'm not convinced by Victor 101, but Holden HD seems a better fit (keeping it in the GM family). And we now know that Holdens did arrive in various East Med countries. Definitely not a Paykan.

@ dsl :
I can't help about the identification, as I really don't know these cars. Could some details (maybe shown in the movie?) help to differentiate the makes?
Anyway, feel free to change, if you think it's more likely a Holden.

I'm tempted, but would prefer some Holdenologists to confirm change, plus exact model.

Edit a few days later: oh what the hell - might as well just do it.

I think those were only sold in Canada, only Vauxhalls I know of being sold in the USA were at -some- Pontiac dealers, and about 1957-60?? And you very seldom ever see one here, not even in dry climates?? (IIRC,it was the Victor?)
