First Sandaro on the site, and it is already wrecked What did they try to do? Replica of side-impact crash test? (I wonder what happens after that, when they have to give the car back, or do they buy it just for that?) |

It doesn’t have side impact head curtain airbags? About it being the first on the site and it gets damaged ... Jeremy probably looked on the site, picked a car we didn’t have yet, and knowing it would be added to the site by loyal members who watch the show, had it damaged. |

About the airbag: it is a cheap entry-level car; the goal with recent Dacias was to provide Renault-based reliable normal-size cars (EU-size) for the price of small city hatchbacks. So I doubt it has such airbags. -- Last edit: 2009-11-17 15:14:09 |

The basic Sandero has airbags only for the driver and front passenger. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dacia_Sandero |

Assuming that the Romanian cars are the same spec as what is available in France, this is an Ambiance model, which is one up from the base model. Side airbags are available on the more expensive Laureate and Prestige models. |

They said on the show that it was second hand. |

And probably wanted to wind up the nerds who actually care about dull/crap cars like this (this is in production so what's the worry?) Including James May who seemed very pleased to get to drive this (yet he'd just been driving a Lamborghini!) If Clarkson ever did come across this site, he'd wet himself laughing! (especially at the reactions to the wrecking of the Morris Marinas) -- Last edit: 2009-11-18 00:01:09 |

May is known for liking cheap simple cars. hence why he owns a Fiat Panda alongside his Porsches etc. |

The people, who are buying a Dacia and other cheap cars like Kia, Daewoo-Chevrolet, etc.(shabby, jittery, name- and style-less in the eyes of brand-fixed car-enthusiasts) are doing it purposefully and wilful - because they don't care about the reputation and the brand-name of their car. So my brother-in-law. "Normally" he's a real classic car- and motorbike-freak, who owns more than a dozen of old motorbikes and a few oldtimer-cars, too. He is really happy and satisfied with his Dacia Logan Kombi. And his next all-day-car will annother Dacia, too. The missing AC is not nice, and the Diesel-engine is a bit too weak. But the car is really reliable and the Renault-technic o.k. So the convinced Dacia-drivers don't care about the backbiting of Clarkson and other not authoritative clowns. |

Nobody worries. I was just finding funny that the first one on the site was already a wrecked one (as it is a very recent car), and wondering how they could afford that. I guess that the price of such car is low enough (well, still few thousands of euros) for such big TV show. |

On the German market it's one of the cheapest new cars, perhaps the cheapest at all. |
◊ 2009-11-18 11:28 |
In Belgium at lowest catalog price you have: (<8000 €) Fiat Seicento = 6610 € Dacia Logan = 7500 € Lada 110 = 7600 € Lada 112 = 7850 € Dacia Sandero = 7950 € Lada Kalina = 7990 € ... I'd take a Logan without hesitation |

Cheaper than a Lada! Although I'm not completely sure if they'd want to put that in their adverts! (because cheap can mean junk) The other day I read that an episode of Top Gear costs over £100,000 to make. -- Last edit: 2009-11-18 22:30:22 |

They could afford to wreck something more expensive than a Sandero or a Marina |
◊ 2009-11-20 19:54 |
In Finland Logan is only sold as MCV model and Lada 117 as STW, all others not in sale here. Dacia Sandero 10.992 € Dacia Logan MCV 12.930 € Lada 117 STW 1.4 12.990 € (you can get a Niva with same price) Cheapest car: Suzuki Alto 1.0 GA 5d 8995 € |

I've seen on a car magasine (don't remember if in L'Auto-Journal, AutoPlus, or whatever..) that Renault/Dacia is willng to launch a rather nice-looking medium-segment car for about 15000€ ... Market of Lagunas, 407, Passat and other Mondeo are on the target... |

In the Narcosur (?), sorry, Mercosur, is built in Brazil. I can talk to them together with the very poor Brazilian manufacturing is one of the worst cars along with Logan and the insufferable Fiat Uno is also a very expensive car, $ 30,000 comes out as one of these well-equipped. A lack of respect. |
