Indeed a 1962 (or 1963) model, by the new taillights and the old license plate light holder. But back then only the 1200 engine was available, so no need to specify the engine. And in Germany this up-market version was called Export. The one shown here has some extras: US-bumpers, mud flaps, stoneguards on front and rear fenders and chrome on the grille under the rear window. |

And the chromated plate-holder had cost some extra money, too. |

It´s correct that the 1200 engine was only choice for the Typ 1 at this point, but for modelyear 1962 the Typ 3 1500 was introduced and therefor VW began using designation 1200 for the older model. Up to 1961 models they were called just Limousine with addition Standard or Export. In running text however Export comes as the first word, examples of that is shown in this 1962 brouchure: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/1962beetle_alles_german.php VW 1200 Limousine [Export-modell] http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/1962beetle_alles_german/2.jpg Der Export-Limousine http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/1962beetle_alles_german/5.jpg And a 1960 Limousine http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/1960beetle/1960-05.jpg So for homemarket it would be VW Limousine up to 1961, and VW 1200 Limousine from 1962. |
