Black plated 4 seaters were extremely expensive, so many bought them as 2 seater utes as tax were cheaper, however when they were 4 years old, they were called in for annual inspections. So a lot of utes were converted to "black plates" when they were 4 years old, by paying a fraction of the original tax, to avoid inspections.
