Ford LTD or Mercury Marquis. I'm guessing '79-'82 due to the roof. I've never seen any '83-'87 models with full vinyl roof treatment. |

Yes, the roof design does say Grand Marquis, especially with the vinly running down the "B" pillar rather than a bright band, like the Crown Victoria had. (I think a full "brougham" vinyl roof was available on the Ford during that period but it was the exception, not the rule.) |

It's actually a Ford, becuase the Mercuries had opera lamps. And it is a 1981+ model, due to the side mirror. From 1988-91 Mercury did offer a "convertible roof" with fake bands and a full-roof treatment that deleted the opera lamp on the B-pillar, but I'm pretty sure they didn't have it for the generation. -- Last edit: 2009-10-03 03:44:17 |

I must disagree. I am looking at page 178 of my Burness album as I type this and there is a 1981 Mercury Grand Marquis clearly pictured with a full vinyl roof (as in the photo above) and no opera lamp. All the Crown Vic's I can recall seeing with full vinyl roofs had brightwork on the "B" pillars or at least the crown emblem. |

The LTD's of the early 80s offered a full vinyl top like the one pictured without a coach light and the crown emblem didn't come along until 1983 when all full-size LTD's became LTD Crown Victoria. My bet is that this is an '81-'82 LTD |
