This is not a Peugeot 404 but an Alfa Romeo 2600 Berlina of the early sixties , ' 62/63.

Couldn't it be a 1958-61 Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina? And not a more recent 2600? I guess it is a 2000 (rear lights, "wave" on the bonnet...). TBC.

Also used in the final scene when Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) is being taken away from court:

Another one, possibly the same car with a different plate:

I have no doubt it is a 2000 Alfa Romeo. Believe it or not, a brazilian state-owned company FNM produced trucks under license from Alfa-Romeo and included this sedan, which has been in production in Brazil from 1959 to 1974 ( much longer than in Italy) and even after that, the basic design continued under the badge Alfa Romeo 2300.

This car was nicknamed JK, after the brazilian president that moved Brazil\\\'s capital from Rio de Janeiro to Brasilia, but when the military took power here they removed the political badge and it became FNM 2000. In 69, there were some stylish changes, removing the wave in the bonnet and adding some cc in the engine, then Alfa Romeo 2150.

It was the unique car made in Brazil using tyres (Pirelli Cinturatto) of 400mm diameter (only some French imported cars used so at that time) and it is impossible to buy such tyres for the old cars.

You may find some details in: http://alfafnm.wordpress.com/historia-da-fnm/

Produced in Brazil, it was a car ahead of its time. Expensive and specialized maintenance decreed its end.

But wait ... This in an Alfa Romeo made in Italy right? It is not a licensed FNM 2000, so the origin of the model is Italy ... Also you can see the emblem "Alfa Romeo" on the hood, not the characteristic elongated "fnm"

Yes, and then this is an Italian scene, so not a FNM built one of course ;)
