This should be labeled "Fleet Special" to be completely correct. That model was a de-trimmed Savoy built specfically for commercial use such as police cars and taxis. Link for a 2nd view: Link to "forum.imcdb.org" -- Last edit: 2009-08-25 17:35:15 |

The "Taxi Special" was it's own model though, up until 1961, according to what it says on Wikipedia. I assume it'd be badged as such seen as it's a Taxi. -- Last edit: 2009-08-25 18:21:41 |

I base my comment on both the period NADA used car guide (I have them all the way back to 1939!) and "The Standard Catalog of American Cars". Neither mentions a "Taxi Special" as either a model or a trim package. (Wikipedia is not renown for complete accuracy although it is a great general tool for basic info.) |

Maybe the name would be "Special Taxi" instead of "Taxi Special" but, at least for '59 and '60 it was a specific Plymouth model![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Interesting. Had never seen those references before. Could still be under the formal "Fleet Special" heading as those cars were intended for fleet use, as police cars, cabs, etc. While Plymouth ads may have referred to taxi "models" I still doubt there was a formal series with that name in them. I would think they only had special taxi equipment "packages", so to speak. Are you aware of separate model numbers? (Then again, the Fleet Specials used Savoy numbers.) -- Last edit: 2009-09-01 15:52:53 |
