Upper left is a two door Studebaker from about 1948-50. Lower middle in a dark colour is a two door Ford from about 1950. -- Last edit: 2009-07-29 21:53:28 |

Wow! No much left to work with. OK. Divided windshield eliminates '51 and '52. Wrap-around bumpers eliminate '47 and '48. That leaves '49 or '50 as possible years. Best I can tell, the rear fenders have the vertical taillamp design, which would indicate 1950, particularly. It is a Regal Deluxe 2-door sedan. (Note stainless steel rocker panel mouldings.) As for Champion vs Commander, take your pick! Can't tell from here. Headlamp rims, hood ornament, bumper guards or a close up of the taillamps could have pinpointed it but none are visible. The front is crushed in but could still argue it has the shorter front clip of a Champion model. I suggest listing as "1950 Studebaker Champion Regal Deluxe". -- Last edit: 2010-02-19 20:00:24 |

It's fun to read your posts, Commander57, it's like you're solving a mystery (which in a way I guess you are ) |

Thanks, Owlman. My family has owned several Studebakers and my Uncle was a Studebaker dealer from 1952 to the end in 1966. I have been a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club since 1974 and have kept all of the club magazine publications since that time. (Studebaker is the only make on which I really have extensively detailed information.) At long last, I have a chance to put my references to more use than gathering dust on my bookshelves! It has been fun to work this section of the site and rewarding to feel I am helping to promote accuracy. My next review will be of 1956, 1957 and 1958 sedans and wagons, then will review the Hawks and finally the Larks. At some point, I might do prewar cars back to 1931 but my interest tapers off earlier than the '47 body designs. When I was a child there were lots of '47 and later Studebakers on the road but I don't ever recall seeing a pre-war car so it's something I really can't identify with. -- Last edit: 2010-02-20 03:05:09 |

Groucho Marx's first car was a Studebaker. "I wanted to buy this Studebaker, but the salesman was French, and he pronounced it Studebakère. I thought, this must be a pretty fancy car! A Studebakère!" |
