This seems to be an example of the rare Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV SE (Special Equipment?) that was created and sold by the British Alfa-Importer around 1976. Link to "www.alfabb.com" |

Glass's says March 74 Quotes: ‘I think we can suppose that the cars selected for Special Equipment conversion were the final orders arriving from Italy, plus the ones that were still hanging around Alfa Romeo GB, Edgeware Road, London.’ ‘This was Alfa GB’s attempt to sell off the final allocation of 2000 GTVs when the Alfetta GT was about to become available. A vinyl roof, a side rubbing strip along the crease line, a matt black grill, rear fog warning lights, rather fussy multi-finned alloy wheels and tinted glass were immediate distinguishing features. Inside a radio cassette was fitted as standard. There was a rumour that the alloy wheels were fitted because the cars had been standing too long and the steel wheels had rusted! Some say that the vinyl roof was applied to avoid a re-spray!’ ‘I could find no figures as to how many SEs were turned out but it may have been a hundred or so. Production: 1975 – 1976.’ ‘Trimcraft Motor Products, a subsidiary of the Tricentrol International Group, have found a unique – and extremely profitable – niche in the market, upgrading the specifications of a whole range of cars with specialised custom packages..... At the Motor Show last year [= 1974], Tricentrol were responsible for special runs on Alfa Romeo, BMW, Daf, Lotus, Saab, Skoda, and some specialised Minis. .... The good reception given to the Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV Special with its Montreal wheels and the Skoda S110R with its leather roof and modified grille point to the success of the concept.’ |

"...A batch of the last of the 2000 GTVs in the UK were designated 'SE' and fitted with a black vinyl roof covering that, astonishingly, was nailed in place! Check for any signs of nail fixings around the window edges where they meet the roof to make sure the car is not an SE."
