I don't know if it's a modern bus or not but, if it is, the sixth window -from rear part to front part- also looks like a emergency door and that thing makes it an All American RE. The other 'large' Blue Bird is the 'Vision' but this model has that 'window with looks like emergency door'in the eighth window Blue Bird Vision |

Well from this view, and counting the windows, if you examine it closely it seems the eighth window seems to be like a door. |

The last 2 digits in the fleet number tell us this is a 1991 model. Also this is the RE model as mentioned above (emergency exit has been moved to the side on the RE model since the engine compartment goes where the rear door is on the FE model.) The Blue Bird Vision is Blue Bird's 2003+ bus that has a cowl on the front (Type C bus), this was put into production after commerical chassises/cowls that were provided by Freightliner, International and GM became unavailble: Freightliner's parent company bought Thomas Body Company (competitor of Blue Bird) and restricted it's FS bus chassis to it's Thomas buses, International bought AmTran (formerly called Ward, (also a competitor) renamed it IC (Integrated Coach) and focused its bus chassies on that, and GM stopped making school bus chassises altogether due to low profits in that category. So Blue Bird had only the choice of buying International commerical chassies at a higher price from them (no competition anymore since they were now the only commerical chassis maker of school bus chassises) OR develop their own chassis for their Type C buses which they did. (However International chassised buses actually availble from Blue Bird until the beginning of 2005, after that IC redisigend all of their buses, and, after offering the "SBCV" chassis, based off of the 2001+ International cowls, stopped providinging the chassis commerically. So not really related to the bus in this picture but thats why the Blue Bird Vision exists. -- Last edit: 2009-05-10 04:15:17 |
