This scene was the reenactment of the murder of Chris Flannery's mate and associate, Michael "Melbourne Mick" Sayers who was shot outside his home in Bronte, NSW on the night of the 16th February 1985.

However in the real murder:

. He was murdered after he got out his Mercedes Benz after coming home from the dog and horse track.

. His murder occurred at night.

. His girlfriend was in the car when he was murdered.

. His murderer was up close when he was shot.

. His murderer had accomplice with him when he murdered Sayers.

As for the matter to those who killed him, according to the "Tough Nuts" story done on Sayers, it was alleged that Barry McCann who a key figure in the drug scene during the Sydney Gangland Wars of 1980s, had two hitmen to murder Sayers.

The theory was, that a week before his murder, Sayers had arranged to meet McCann for a drug buy and Sayers took the drugs with the intentions of returning with the money to pay McCann but Sayers return to McCann without the money and the drugs and spun a story that he was robbed, but McCann was convinced that Sayers had ripped him off, so McCann had two hitmen to kill him.

McCann himself was later murdered during the Sydney Gangland War on the 28th December 1987.

Another theory was that Sayers failed to pay another gambling debt to another racing identity, so he had Sayers killed.
