1975-76. The only question is, is this Suburban a C-10 or a C-20? -- Last edit: 2009-04-27 01:32:31 |

That's the ambulance which drives Jock Ewing to the hospital, shortly after he had a heart attack. |

The rig is a 1975 Chevrolet Suburban C-20 modified by Summer's Coach in Duncanville, Texas. Summer's modifications were identifiable by the "pancake" lights they used on the front and rear of the raised roof, and the "ambulance" logo on the rear side windows. Before the advent of federal design standards for ambulances, the Summer's suburbans were amoung the most popular ambulances in Texas and Oklahoma. I would give my eye-teeth to get my hands on one today. -- Last edit: 2009-12-09 18:55:27 |

It’s dressed in Silverado trim, top-of-the-line. Also note the optional stainless steel polished wheel covers, and stainless steel polished "below eyeline" mirrors. Notice the independent front suspension (IFS) contoured lower control arms flex as the big utility floats around the corner. It may or may not have the purely optional rear Gov-lok differential. With it being a three quarter-ton Suburban, it would have had either the 350 small block V-8 or 454 big block V-8. The six cylinder engines were too underpowered to move such weight. |

What is the advantage of below the eyeline mirrors? |

The standard mirrors had a small viewing surface, limited adjustability. The optional stainless steel "below eyeline" mirrors had a much larger viewing surface for towing and increased side visibility. -- Last edit: 2011-06-29 20:56:52 |
