The article Kay linked to says the car was made in 1951. Of course it's too young for the film's setting, but many films set during the Second World War have vehicles that are too young or from the wrong country. For example, some of the German army trucks in Valkyrie are a Czechoslovak model from the 1950s: /vehicle_215663-Praga-V3S-1953.html -- Last edit: 2009-06-20 14:45:22 |

Absolutely right. In the years of 1951 and 1952, Mercedes-Benz produced the 170 D OTP (= Offener Tourenwagen Polizei) for official use in the Bundesgrenzschutz (BGS) and the state Bereitschaftspolizei units. All units were painted in polizeigrün. (Except the ones which were delivered to the police force of West Berlin, which were all painted dark blue.) Cheers! Kay |

Is there any similarity between 170 OTP and war models? |

They did at least get the blackout covers right. |

I really don't know why they chose this anachronistic car for the main role - the background cars in many scenes show that they indeed had many cars from that era at their disposal. -- Last edit: 2018-01-28 11:45:50 (walter) |
