Looking at my registration, my '94 is called a "Pontiac Firebird Trans Am". The Trans Am has always been basically a Firebird. The main differences are that the Trans Am always had the more powerful engine, and there are subtle body and trim differences, like spoilers, driving lights, etc. In case you're bored and want to read something....... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Trans_Am http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Firebird |

trans ams and firebirds have many differences. the firebird was the base model of the trans am. my 77 is just a pontiac trans am. this one is a 78 SE, i believe called the Y-82 |

They were coded either Y-82 or Y-84, depending on whether they were built at the Van Nuys California or Norwood Ohio plants, respectively. SEs in 1978 were offered in either Starlite Black or, for the first time, a new color known as Solar Gold. The majority of 1978 SEs...about 7200 units...were Solar Gold automatic cars, just like the one used in the film. |

BeanBandit is correct. People out of convienance tend to delete the "first" name(Firebird) of the Trans Am because of the long length of the official name. No big deal. -- Last edit: 2009-04-17 05:40:13 |
