I had forgotten Radford did them as well. Using that I found the following about this exact car. There was a magazine piece about supposedly finding this exact car. "MINI WORLD - June 1994. Spoiler - click here to see it At the end of the film Commissioner Dreyfus (Herbert Lom) puts a bomb under the bonnet and when the lights go out, Ballon (George Sanders) and his staff run outside and pile into the Mini and drive off and it explodes offscreen. This car belonged to Peter Sellers. I saw it at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last year: According to the sign in the 2nd thumbnail, it was made by Hooper. -- Last edit: 2010-01-27 01:58:57

Link to "www.supercars.net" "In 1963 Peter Sellers ordered a lavishly trimmed Mini from Hooper Motor Services Ltd which was cloned by Radford for the Pink Panther sequel ‘A shot in the Dark’. "This was completely done by Radford on a left-hand drive 1963 Morris Mini Cooper. The film aired on June of 1964 and subsequently this car became one of the most famous of all Minis. The car was gifted to director Blake Edwards who took it with him to California."

Its colour is also Purple rather than Black in the LHD 'Shot in the Dark' version. As for 6189 PK interesting engine size - never come across a Mini 1152cc before, and that it is purple - the usual comment is that it was black. Seen briefly at end of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyqqZno8Ktg . Also he had another Hooper Morris Cooper - not S - with wicker sides in very dark blue/purple, red interior, plate 57 PJ, which might be his first - modifications cost £2600. -- Last edit: 2011-04-15 12:41:25

dsl ◊ 2018-08-16 20:22	2469 NK75 was a 1963 plate. Agree based on Morris Mini Cooper - has normal wheels with trims, not wider Cooper S wheels. July 2009 auction entry (Coys, Blenheim Palace). Noted that film pics show F-spec reflectors in rear lights and that the 2009 sightings at auction and at Goodwood have wing mirrors not present in film. A nice model by Schuco (#08986), mis-described as 1967 Cooper S. It's actually very very dark blue rather than black and looks better in the metal than the pictures suggest.
mauriceoxford ◊ 2019-02-23 10:00	Just to add to what Kurt says above, there may have been three mini here. There's a long shot of the car travelling through the countryside after the nudist camp scene- that car has no sunroof, no spot lights and no white-wall tyres. Then the scene at the traffic lights next to the Renault bus - it suddenly has white-wall tyres but still no lamps or sun roof. Then there's the studio car fully equipped.

SixtiesSwing ◊ 2021-08-26 03:08	^ Yes. that is what I am thinking as I read through this thread, but you beat me to the thought by two years, dsl.....I remember rewatching this scene recently to identify differences, and could tell that the studio / backlot model was different from the one shot on location around Paris. But I overlooked the one used in France did not have a sun roof. Knowing this, and as I look at the pictures, I'm sure that the production put some sort of cladding on the sides to mimic the basketweave design. I could just be tan paint slapped on as this car wasn't in closeup from the outside. Very interesting thread!
