this car really irritaded me in the movie as in the book it was specifically described as a BMW M3 |

I guess it was a product placement, since there was also a S-Class |

yeah but the s-classe was the correct car in the book. Who knows maybe BMW didnt allow the car to be used in the movie |

I doubt that they must ask permission to use cars in movies |

some do look at Transformers the role of Bumblebee was a Camaro because VW did not want to have their cars to be associated with war-mongering robots. |

In that case the producers would have needed Volkswagen's permission to use the car's design in toys and merchandising. Simply showing a car in a film is not a breach of copyright (at least not in the UK). |

The producers wanted a Ford Mustang to portray the transformer robot Barricade. But Ford did not want it’s Mustang to be seen portraying an evil character that was also to be defeated by the hero Chevrolet Camaro. So the producers turned to Saleen, who was eager to supply it’s S281 Extreme (which looks almost like a Mustang) Saleen was also happy to licenses the S281 Extreme to the Hasbro Toy company (which makes the Transformers toys) As a result, the Barricade S281 (though some mistake it as a Mustang) has become just as popular as the Bumblebee Camaro, being a favorite villain of the Transformers film. I think Ford missed out on a grand opportunity for product placement and brand awareness. |

The use of a car in a movie like Transformers is not really the same as here where the car has nearly no role. For Transformers they contacted the companies for making derivate products and also to get lots of cars for free for making the robots. Here they just needed one car, they could even buy it or rent it. |

I bet the vin number on that "S281" still comes back a Ford Mustang. |

Sometimes movie productions will switch brands if a particular car is not made available from a manufacturer. It is cheaper than the vehicles for the duration of the movie productions. |

refering bck to weither or not BMW let them use their car to replace it with the clk or not,i never have understood why automakers turn down free advertisments. |

Too be honest, I thought the CLK more suited Rosalie. If the producer chose BMW, then she'd be the sporty type. The Benz makes her seem, distinct. |
