Nissan Fairlady?? |

look like MG Midget |

I did think it might be an A-H Sprite, but decided to suggest the Nissan because of the shape of the windscreen. |

could be MG... |

I'm inclined to think MG too, although bits of the grille are missing. AFAIK the Sprite never had a badge on the grille. It's certainly a Spridget of some sort. |

I'd say MG: http://www.pistonheads.com/pics/news/10299/1972_MGMidget-L.jpg |

Yes indeed, but from the size of the windscreen I'd say Mk.II, 1964-6. |

The windscreen surround is earlier than that shown in dudley's link, so either MG Midget MkI or A-H Sprite MkII I believe to go with the earlier doors without quarter-lites? /vehicle_50894-MG-Midget-1961.html /vehicle_55232-Austin-Healey-Sprite-ADO41-1961.html All earlier Midgets had grilles with vertical bars, the Sprite had mesh type grilles I believe. I'm confused about the badge. As none of the early Midgets or Sprites had them in the centre of the grilles I think. The MG had it at the top the A-H Sprite on the bonnet. -- Last edit: 2008-11-17 11:41:35 |

Try this 1971 US-spec Midget: -- Last edit: 2008-11-17 14:34:21 |

... probably someone has fitted a later grille to the one in the main picture? Notice Mike's '71 Midget has 3 wipers, the later windscreen surround and rubber faced over-riders unlike the main picture. I propose we call it MG Midget Mk.I because the body has the earlier windscreen surround. Notice the bottom and top corners are different (thinner and rounded). -- Last edit: 2008-11-17 14:46:56 |

Yes.. There is nothing in japan with that style except a Honda A600, but this is not one I say MG Midget |

Made for the US market as UK ones never had indicators on the side of the front wings. |

At first, I thought it was a Sunbeam Alpine - but it is not, now that I look at it. I don't think it is a 1961, however... because of the side markers. I like the match above of a '71. Explains the grille, bumper, side markers, everything except that in the movie, I THINK I see only 2 wipers. |

Fairly sure this is Sprite for 2 reasons - it's a Sprite grille, and there's no hint of Midget side trim. And agree it's early screen (shape, bottom corner mounts, no quarterlight on far side if it still has that door). But 2 anomalies - the badge in grille and the side indicator. The only Spridgets with badge in grille were the 69+ facelift with black grille, when both versions got it (as seen in the photo of the 71 red Midget, but that's been tweaked with a de-blacked grille; to note for reference - only the Midget was exported after this facelift which made both versions identical apart from badges - all Sprites stayed at home). So the badge here is an anomalous add-on, and may be something else apart from Sprite or Midget - a local club or whatever?? No explanation for side indicator - the other features are too early for 68+ sidemarker. So 61+ Sprite Mk2 the best match. |
